The “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Set during the Taisho era, the story follows Tanjiro Kamado, a boy whose family was slaughtered by demons, as he embarks on his journey of vengeance.

The TV anime “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc,” which began airing in April 2019, became an instant hit. The sequel film, “Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train,” surpassed 50 billion yen in worldwide box office revenue. The cumulative worldwide circulation of the original manga has now reached 220 million copies, making it a historical blockbuster in Japanese manga and anime history.

Following the “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc,” the TV anime continued with the “Entertainment District Arc,” “Swordsmith Village Arc,” and “Hashira Training Arc.” The concluding episodes, adapted as the three-part movie series “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle,” were announced. The first installment, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns,” released on July 18, 2025, recorded over 33 billion yen at the box office within 60 days of release. Overseas releases are also underway, and the total worldwide box office revenue, including Japan, has exceeded 68 billion yen.
