Cast Overwhelmed by Surprise Gift from Original Author Tsukasa Hojo! Anime "Cat's Eye" Episode 1 & 2 Preview Event Held Just Before Streaming

A preview event for episodes 1 and 2 was held ahead of the streaming of the anime "Cat's▼Eye". The main cast of the anime, including the voice actors Mikako Komatsu as Hitomi Kisugi, Ami Koshimizu as Rui Kisugi, Yumiri Hanamori as Ai Kisugi, and Takuya Sato as Toshio Utsumi, attended the event. In addition, the heroines dressed as the phantom thief Cat's▼Eye also attended, discussing the charm of the anime "Cat's▼Eye", which is being reborn in the Reiwa era.

"Cat's▼Eye", a hugely popular manga by Tsukasa Hojo, was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1981 to 1984. The beautiful Kisugi sisters, Hitomi, Rui and Ai, who are the owners of the coffee shop Cat's▼Eye, run coolly through the night as the phantom thief Cat's▼Eye, engaging in splendid action and thrilling love affairs with detectives. Not only in Japan but also in Asia and the West, the work enjoys strong popularity. In 2022, the 40th anniversary of its publication, an original art exhibition will be held, and various media adaptations continue to be made worldwide, making it a legendary work that continues to be loved by many fans.

Such "Cat's▼Eye" is being remade into a completely new anime this year, and will be exclusively streamed on Disney Plus from September 26th (Friday).

The venue was packed with an audience gathered to enjoy the very first screening of the brand-new anime "Cat's▼Eye." Accompanied by the ending theme "Cat's▼Eye" sung by Ado, the crowd warmly welcomed the four cast members: Mikako Komatsu as Hitomi Kisugi, Ami Koshimizu as Rui Kisugi, Yumiri Hanamori as Ai Kisugi, and Takuya Satou as Toshio Utsumi, with enthusiastic applause.

Asked about her feelings when she was cast in "Cat's▼Eye," Komatsu said, "I was overwhelmed with surprise and anxiety. The image of Keiko Toda, who played Hitomi in the previous series, was very strong in my mind, so I approached the audition with respect for her. However, I had to set aside the plan I had prepared when I was told, 'Please forget it for now.' I was filled with anxiety, lacking confidence and assurance, but I think I was able to perform well thanks to the teamwork with everyone on set," reflecting on creating a new "Cat's▼Eye" with the staff under pressure.

Hanamori, whose parents are big fans of "Cat's▼Eye," shared her experience: "When I auditioned, I was told, 'Please play Ai as you imagine her, Ms. Hanamori,' which allowed me to enjoy the process. I thought I would someday boast about this memory to my parents, but I never expected to receive such a wonderful opportunity. As soon as the information was released, I reported it to my parents. I think it was the work that made them happiest when I told them, 'I'm going to be in this production!'"
