The "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, which was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taisho era, the story follows a young boy, Tanjirō Kamado, as he battles demons after his family is slaughtered.
The TV anime "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc," which began airing in April 2019, quickly became a sensation, and the sequel film "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train" surpassed 50 billion yen in global box office revenues. The total worldwide circulation of the original manga has now reached 220 million copies, making it a historic mega-hit in the world of Japanese manga and anime.
Following the "Unwavering Resolve Arc," the TV anime continued with the "Entertainment District Arc," the "Swordsmith Village Arc," and the "Hashira Training Arc." The “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Arc”—the story’s final chapters—has been announced as a trilogy of theatrical films. The first installment, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Arc Part 1: Akaza’s Return," which began screening on July 18, 2025, has already brought in over 33 billion yen in box office revenue within its first 60 days. The film is gradually being released in overseas regions, and combined global box office revenues, including Japan, have surpassed 68 billion yen.
