The “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taisho Era, it follows the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a boy whose family was killed by demons. “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” began airing in April 2019 with the “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc” and quickly became a sensation, while its sequel, the film “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train,” grossed over 50 billion yen worldwide. The manga has now sold 220 million copies around the world, making it one of the most successful titles in the history of Japanese manga and anime.
Following the first “Unwavering Resolve Arc,” the TV anime has continued with the “Entertainment District Arc,” “Swordsmith Village Arc,” and “Hashira Training Arc.” For the climactic episodes, a three-part “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc” film series was announced. The first part, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc Part 1: Akaza Reappears,” released on July 18, 2025, grossed more than 33 billion yen in its first 60 days. The film’s release is expanding to other regions, and including Japan, the worldwide total box-office revenue has surpassed 68 billion yen.
