The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taisho era, it tells the story of Tanjirō Kamado, a young boy whose family was killed by demons, and his struggle for survival. The TV anime “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc,” which began airing in April 2019, quickly became a sensation. The sequel film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, surpassed 50 billion yen in worldwide box office revenue. The manga’s total circulation worldwide has reached 220 million copies, making it a record-breaking work in the history of Japanese manga and anime.

Following the “Unwavering Resolve Arc,” the TV anime broadcast continued with the “Entertainment District Arc,” “Swordsmith Village Arc,” and “Hashira Training Arc.” It has been announced that the final episodes, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc,” will be produced as a trilogy of films. “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc: Part 1 - Akaza’s Return,” which has been playing since July 18, 2025, has recorded more than 34 billion yen in box office revenue within 66 days of release. Additionally, with international releases starting in various regions, the total worldwide box office has surpassed 68 billion yen, including Japan.
