"The Summer Hikaru Died" is a coming-of-age horror story based on the popular manga by Mokumokuren, which has surpassed 3.5 million copies in circulation. The story revolves around Yoshiki Tsujinaka (voiced by Chiaki Kobayashi), a male high school student, and Hikaru, a "something" that looks like his best friend Hikaru Indou (voiced by Shūichirō Umeda).
