The “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Set in Japan’s Taisho era, the story follows Tanjirō Kamado (voiced by Natsuki Hanae), a young boy whose family was slaughtered by demons, as he sets forth on his quest for vengeance.

When the TV anime “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc” premiered in April 2019, it quickly captured audiences’ attention. Its sequel, the movie “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train,” went on to surpass 50 billion yen in worldwide box office revenue. The original manga’s cumulative circulation worldwide has reached 220 million copies, cementing its place as a major hit in the history of Japanese manga and anime.

The TV anime continued with “Entertainment District Arc,” “Swordsmith Village Arc,” and “Hashira Training Arc.” The climactic “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc” was announced as a trilogy of films. The first installment, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc - Part 1: Akaza Returns ,” released on July 18, 2025, grossed over 34 billion yen in its first 66 days. Overseas releases are rolling out sequentially, and as of September 22, worldwide box office revenue—including Japan—has surpassed 82.3 billion yen.
