The "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. The story is set in the Taisho era and follows Tanjirō Kamado (voiced by Natsuki Hanae), a boy whose family was slaughtered by demons, as he battles to avenge them.
The TV anime "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc," which began airing in April 2019, quickly became a sensation, and its sequel, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train," surpassed 50 billion yen in worldwide box office revenue. The manga’s total worldwide circulation has reached 220 million copies, making it a monumental hit in the history of Japanese manga and anime.
Following the "Unwavering Resolve Arc," the TV anime series has aired the "Entertainment District Arc," the "Swordsmith Village Arc," and the "Hashira Training Arc." The forthcoming final episodes, adapted as "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Infinity Castle Arc," are being produced as a movie trilogy. The first part, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Infinity Castle Arc - Part 1: Akaza Returns," released on July 18, 2025, has grossed over 34 billion yen in 66 days. With overseas releases proceeding gradually, as of September 22, the film had surpassed 82.3 billion yen in total worldwide box office revenue, including Japan.
