
It has been announced that the latest 77th volume of Yasuhisa Hara's manga series, Kingdom (published by Shueisha), is released today, and the series has surpassed a cumulative total of 120 million copies in circulation. This achievement was revealed on the official Kingdom account on October 17th.
Kingdom is a popular series that began serialization in Weekly Young Jump (Shueisha) in January 2006. It is a grand historical war epic set in ancient China's Warring States period, following the orphan boy Shin as he rises to become the greatest general under the heavens.
The anime adaptation began airing its first season in June 2012, and the latest, 6th season is currently broadcasting from October 2025. The 6th season covers content starting from around Volume 46 of the manga. Shin is voiced by Masakazu Morita, and Ei Sei is voiced by Jun Fukuyama.
The live-action film series saw its first installment, Kingdom, released in 2019, earning the highest box office revenue among all Japanese live-action films that year. The second and third films were released in 2022 and 2023, respectively. The fourth live-action film, Kingdom: Return of the Great General, which premiered in 2024, grossed 8 billion yen at the box office. Shin is played by Kento Yamazaki, and Ei Sei by Ryo Yoshizawa.
