On October 25, the official SPY×FAMILY anime X (formerly Twitter) account announced that Kikuko Inoue would be voicing the new character Melinda Desmond, sparking a significant reaction.
The SPY×FAMILY anime is a spy-action and home-comedy centered around a spy protagonist and his family, based on the manga by Tatsuya Endo, serialized on Shonen Jump+. The series has surpassed 38 million copies in circulation, with the first season premiering in April 2022. The third season of the TV series is currently airing.
Melinda Desmond is scheduled to appear in anime episode 42, airing on November 1. She is the mother of Damian Desmond (CV: Natsumi Fujiwara), a classmate of Anya Forger (CV: Atsumi Tanezaki).
The casting of Kikuko Inoue—known for her elegant and friendly motherly roles—was met with a flood of surprise, delight, and approval online, with comments such as: "Kikuko-oneesan!?", "I bet a lot of people were hoping for Inoue-san!", and "With Kikuko Inoue-san, you know it's right."
