Furthermore, this week also delivered the world's first close-up interview with Kazutoshi Soyama, the manga artist of "Dangerous Jii-san," which has been serialized for nearly 25 years. The segment delved into the secret of how he creates children's gag comedy.
When asked about his influences, Soyama said, "I love The Drifters. Back then, there were performances that would be unthinkable today. I think the destructive-type punchlines were influenced by The Drifters."
Regarding the most memorable chapter in the nearly 25 years, he cited an episode where all the dialogue was "unko" (poop), commenting, "I'd be too scared to draw it now," which prompted laughter in the studio with reactions like "That's too wild!" and "How bold!" About what inspired him to become a manga artist, he revealed, "When I was in first grade of elementary school, I saw Super Mario-kun, Sawada-sensei's manga, and became absorbed in it. From then on, I thought I'd try drawing myself." When asked about manga that recently shocked him, he answered "Aoashi," saying, "The technique of making you read it as manga is wonderful. There's a wall, there's an answer—this repetition feels good. Once they make you read, they don't let the reader go."
"SHIBUYA ANIME BASE" #64 is currently available for free catch-up streaming on ABEMA. The next episode, "SHIBUYA ANIME BASE" #65, broadcasting at 9 PM on October 31, will feature a special on the fall anime "A Star Brighter Than the Sun," with guest Minori Fujidera, who stars in the series. Additionally, information about new anime such as "Dusk Beyond the End of the World" is also scheduled to be delivered.
