The anime "Kingdom" is based on the massively popular manga by Yasuhisa Hara, which has surpassed 120 million copies in circulation. It is an epic historical drama set in China during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States period, depicting the exploits of Shin (CV: Masakazu Morita), a young boy aiming to become a great general of the realm, and Ei Sei (CV: Jun Fukuyama), the young king who would later become the First Emperor of China. The TV anime's first season began airing in 2012, and the fourth live-action film installment "Kingdom: The Return of the Great General," released in 2024, recorded box office revenue of 8 billion yen.

With their initial plans rendered useless by Ri Boku's strategy, the Qin Coalition Army was forced to abandon Retsubi according to Supreme Commander Ō Sen's plan. Rather than heading directly to their target Gyou, Ō Sen began by conquering the small city of Gota, then successively captured medium and small cities in the Zhao kingdom's royal capital region, strictly ordering his forces to move on to other castles without harming civilians.
