[Photos/Images] Space Channel 5's Ulala Cosplay: Handmade Costume & Props Recreate the Vibrant Cosmos! 6th
Zoom in

— Thank you for agreeing to an interview following your coverage at "AnimeJapan 2025"! What inspired you to choose Ulala from Space Channel 5 this time?

Nanako Misono (Misono): I've actually cosplayed Ulala several times already, but it's a work I genuinely love, so I decided to do it again for this event.

— Could you tell us about the creation of this costume?

Misono: The costume and props were all handmade by me. I paid close attention to the colors of the fabric and the wig to recreate the colorful, cosmic atmosphere of the game. For the props, I bought items with similar shapes from 100-yen stores (similar to dollar stores) and then built them up using paper clay and sponge, finishing them off with paint.

— What aspects of Space Channel 5 do you find most appealing?

Misono: Space Channel 5 is a turn-based rhythm game. First, the music is incredibly stylish and cool. Then, during your turn, you perform actions like defense, counter-attacks, and rescuing hostages. The feeling of exhilaration when you perfectly nail the rhythm is just amazing. Also, the enemy characters, like the Morolians, are unique and cute, which I think is another part of its charm.

— Do you have any announcements about your upcoming activities?

Misono: I'm hoping to participate in Winter Comiket next.

— Thank you very much!

Ms. Misono showcased a cosplay from Space Channel 5, a classic masterpiece first released in 1999. In a previous interview, she mentioned that she "often gets into works that were released over ten years ago," raising hopes that she will continue to treat us to cosplays of nostalgic anime and game characters in the future.
