Fans who saw this illustration sent a flood of praise, such as "It's so cute I swooned," "Seriously too good lol," "I'm surprised that for two weeks in a row, people with the occupation: Voice Actor are this good at drawing lol," and "Are all Madoka Magica voice actors too good at art!?"

However, since the currently airing main story reveals Kyubey's true nature—which can hardly be called a "cute mascot character"—many viewers could not hide their confusion at the temperature difference from the main story. Comments included, "If I saw just the art style without knowing anything, this is what I'd think it was like," "The gap between this and how the episode ended," "Kyubey is... cute...?", "This is the Kyubey first-time viewers imagine Madoka Magica has," and "This is a Kyubey that looks like it belongs on Sunday mornings."

As a side note, the method of employing guest artists for end cards is a form of fan service frequently used in works by the animation studio Shaft, which handles the production of "Madoka Magica," and can be seen in various other works.
