Lilas Ikuta, who is also known as ikura of YOASOBI, released the full-length anime music video for "In Bloom" on the TOHO animation YouTube channel via a premiere event on December 16 at 10:00 PM. The track is the English version of "Hyakka Ryoran," the opening theme for the TV series The Apothecary Diaries, which was originally released digitally this past September.
The Apothecary Diaries is an anime series based on the light novel of the same name by Hyuganatsu. It is a massive hit that has also been adapted into manga across two different monthly magazines. The story has gained widespread popularity for its mystery-solving elements—featuring the protagonist Maomao working as a "taster" in the imperial rear palace—as well as the comical interactions between Maomao and Jinshi. While two seasons of the TV anime have aired so far, it has been announced that Season 3 will air as a split-season (two cours) starting in October 2026 and April 2027. Additionally, the series' first-ever feature film is scheduled for release in December 2026.
This music video was produced and released to commemorate the announcement of "TV Anime Season 3 and a Feature Film production," which was shared on October 22 to mark the 2nd anniversary of the anime's original broadcast.
The song is a dynamic pop tune that captures the world of the rear palace—the setting of The Apothecary Diaries—and its unfolding mysteries within the sound itself. This newly released English version, "In Bloom," was recorded at the world-renowned Metropolis Studios in London, UK. The English lyrics were penned by Konnie Aoki; while staying true to the original Japanese phrasing and meaning, the adaptation leverages the unique rhythm of the English language, resulting in a sound with a fresh and distinct appeal.
Following the intense climax of The Apothecary Diaries Season 2, this MV serves as a special visual piece that focuses on the evolving relationships between the characters—portraying depths that can only be fully appreciated now that the season has concluded.
