Chiikawa is a popular manga series by illustrator Nagano, which began serialization on X (formerly Twitter) in 2020. The series won the Grand Prix at the "Japan Character Award 2022" and again at the "Japan Character Award 2024" announced in July. It has gained widespread popularity among both adults and children for the striking contrast between its "small and cute" characters and its surprisingly harsh world. As of now, the official account has surpassed 4.4 million followers.

The new series of the Chiikawa anime began airing on July 15, 2025, as part of the "Mezamashi TV" program on the Fuji TV network. Additionally, the series' first-ever feature film, Eiga Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu, is scheduled for release in Summer 2026.
