The anime series "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotouge, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taisho era, the story follows Tanjiro, a young boy whose family is slaughtered by demons, as he embarks on a perilous journey to fight back.
The TV anime "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc," which began airing in April 2019, became an instant sensation. Its sequel, the film "Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train," surpassed 50 billion yen in total worldwide box office revenue. With the original manga exceeding 220 million copies in circulation globally, the franchise has become a historic blockbuster in the history of Japanese manga and anime.
Following the "Unwavering Resolve Arc," the TV anime continued with the "Entertainment District Arc," "Swordsmith Village Arc," and "Hashira Training Arc." It has been announced that the final episodes will be adapted into a trilogy titled "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle." The first installment, "Chapter 1: Akaza’s Return," was released on July 18, 2025, and as of November, it was announced that the film's total worldwide box office revenue has surpassed 106.3 billion yen. Additionally, starting November 1, 2025, the Aniplex YouTube channel has been releasing character commercials featuring footage from the film for eight consecutive weeks.
