Online, viewers were thrilled by Jinshi dressed as the moon spirit, exclaiming "The nation-toppling beauty has arriiiived," "My heart has been stolen," "This really would topple a nation...," and "If you showed this, something terrible would happen (in all kinds of ways)." Some people also had their hearts stolen by the completely soaked and moody Jinshi, commenting "That's also something that shouldn't be shown," "Jinshi-sama is way too cute," and "The way he sulkily acted spoiled toward Maomao-chan was so cute I couldn't help grinning lol."

"The Apothecary Diaries" is an anime adaptation of the light novel of the same name by Hyuganatsu. It's a mega-hit that has also been adapted into manga in two monthly magazines and a manga app. The deductive drama featuring Maomao, who ends up working as a "poison taster" in the inner palace, and the comical interactions between Maomao and Jinshi became hugely popular and generated significant buzz. The TV anime has aired through its second season, and a third season has been announced for split two-cour broadcasts starting in October 2026 and April 2027. Additionally, the series' first theatrical film is scheduled to be released in December 2026. The series continues to grow in popularity worldwide, with a "The Apothecary Diaries" exhibition tour of Asian cities scheduled to begin in November 2025.
