While there have been scenes in past series where mobile suits moved in human-like ways, it's rare for a mass-production Zaku to clearly perform disciplined actions like a salute. Despite being an inorganic weapon, it's impressive how "soldier-like behavior" is layered onto it.
In "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX," there are numerous instances where the direction gives mobile suit movements subtle nuances. The Zaku's salute was also one scene that created the illusion that even the machine itself held will and loyalty in the midst of a harsh operation.
A gesture with character, subtly inserted amid the serious battle situation. Episode 8 was also an episode where such detailed direction quietly lingered in memory.
"Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" is the latest installment in the "Mobile Suit Gundam" series that has continued since 1979. It's a story about a high school girl named Amate Yuzuriha who lives peacefully in a space colony floating in space, but through her encounter with a girl named Nyaan, gets caught up in an illegal mobile suit dueling competition called "Clan Battle."
The joint production between Studio Khara, which worked on the "Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition" series, and Sunrise became a hot topic, and the theatrical preview version released in January 2025 ahead of the TV series recorded a massive hit with box office revenue of approximately 3.4 billion yen. It was re-released in 368 theaters nationwide in June 2025, and a special event was held at North America's largest anime event "Anime Expo 2025," gaining popularity both domestically and internationally.
