"Chiikawa" is a popular manga posted on X (formerly Twitter) by illustrator Nagano, which began serialization in 2020. It won the grand prix at the "Japan Character Awards 2022" and the "Japan Character Awards 2024" announced in July 2024. The gap between the small and cute characters and the harsh worldview has gained widespread popularity from adults to children alike, with followers surpassing 4.5 million to date.

The new series of the anime "Chiikawa" is currently airing within "Mezamashi TV" on the Fuji Television Network starting from July 15, 2025. Additionally, the first theatrical film for "Chiikawa," titled "Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island," is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2026.
