The official X account for "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" has released a supporting illustration by Maedakun, the author of the manga "Puniru wa Kawaii Slime," and its unique theme has become a major topic of discussion.
The released image features Frieren (CV: Atsumi Tanezaki) dressed in colorful and pop Heisei-era fashion, along with the title logo "Heisei no Frieren." Frieren shows a proud expression while holding a nostalgic portable game console-style item with a strap featuring an Aura (CV: Ayana Taketatsu) motif, saying "Look, Fern, this is the trendy and young outfit of today." Next to her, Fern (CV: Kana Ichinose) shows a surprised expression, saying "It's come full circle and is now trendy...!!" making it a lively piece supporting the anime's second season.
"Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" is a manga work serialized in "Weekly Shonen Sunday," with the original story by Kanehito Yamada and artwork by Tsukasa Abe. Set in the world "after" the Demon King was defeated, it depicts the story of Frieren, a mage who has lived for over 1000 years, embarking on a "journey to understand people," and the original comics have won numerous manga awards. Starting in January 2026, the anime's second season is being broadcast.
In response to this post, fans have shared comments such as "It's way too cute," "The Heisei vibe is coming through nicely," "A 1000-year-old elf in Heisei-era girl fashion suits her too well," "Frieren doesn't feel out of place, as expected," and "It strangely matches and is cute."
