Chiikawa is a popular manga series by illustrator Nagano, which began serialization on X (formerly Twitter) in 2020. It won the Grand Prix at the Japan Character Award in both 2022 and July 2024. The series has gained widespread popularity among both adults and children for the stark contrast between its "small and cute" characters and its surprisingly harsh worldview. As of now, it has surpassed 4.52 million followers.
A new series of the Chiikawa anime has been airing since July 15, 2025, on Fuji TV’s Mezamashi TV. Additionally, the first-ever feature film, Chiikawa The Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island, is scheduled for release in Summer 2026.
