—In "You Can't Be In a Rom-Com with Your Childhood Friends!," the friendship between the childhood friends Shio and Akari is also a key point, isn't it?

Kusumi: That’s true. You see a lot of boy-girl childhood friend relationships, but the bond between the girls is also well-depicted here. Even though there are moments where they both get a bit harsh with Eiyū, the girls clearly love each other and get along so well, which is adorable. I wish I had a female childhood friend like that.

—By the way, I’ve been wondering since I read the manga, what is the correct intonation for "Eiyū"...?

Kusumi: It’s the same intonation as "Keikyu" (like the Keikyu Railway) (lol). During the auditions, everyone used the same intonation as "Eiyu" (Hero), but Misu-sensei told us, "It’s like Keikyu."

—So you went with the "Keikyu" intonation from then on.

Kusumi: Yes, I worked hard on it! During the recording for Episode 2, my manager even set up a fine system where I’d have to pay 500 yen every time I messed it up, because I struggled so much at the start of Episode 1 (lol). Of course, they didn't actually take my money, but it definitely made me focus for Episode 2.

—Finally, do you have a message for the fans?

Kusumi: I think this is a series where you will definitely fall in love with one of the heroines. And I hope some people find themselves liking the protagonist, Eiyū, too! It’s a work that makes you laugh and feel good, so I’d be happy if everyone gave it a watch at least once.

Urao: I think this is a very human story that really explores the meaning behind the title "My Childhood Friend and I Won't Ever Be a Rom-Com."
