The TV anime 'You Can't Be In a Rom-Com with Your Childhood Friends!' (Osalove) has been airing since January 2026. This work is a harem romantic comedy based on the manga of the same name serialized in "Magazine Pocket," featuring the protagonist Yonosuke Sakai (Eiyū) and four childhood friend heroines.

The story depicts episodes where the heroines try to create romantic comedy scenarios to catch Eiyū's attention, but repeatedly fail due to Eiyū's patience and efforts.

Shio Minamo, one of Eiyū's childhood friends, has a bright and cheerful personality, though her somewhat airheaded nature is her one flaw. Episode 1 portrayed how she executes various plans to make Eiyū see her as a girl, but things don't go as planned.

In this article, we bring you an interview with Takehiro Urao, who plays Eiyū, and Rin Kusumi, who plays Shio, about their experiences portraying childhood friends with close relationships.

——The interactions between Eiyū and his childhood friends that never turn into rom-com scenarios are charming. What aspects of each other's performances left an impression on you?

Urao: Shio often clings to Eiyū, and I thought the acting during those moments was exquisitely well done. Especially the bus scene in Episode 2 – that was Rin Kusumi's true forte.

Kusumi: Ahaha (lol). It's embarrassing to have a fellow actor talk about my performance (lol).

Everyone: (lol)

Urao: I especially want people to watch the bus scene. When I saw the completed footage beforehand, I thought, "Wow!"

Kusumi: You're thinking I pulled off the whisper voice, right? ...Actually, I'm too embarrassed to watch (the finished footage) yet... I get so shy.

Urao: You might be embarrassed (lol). But you were totally Shio!

Kusumi: Really? I'm glad to hear that!
