"Chiikawa" is a popular manga that Nagano began serializing on X (formerly Twitter) in 2020. It won the Grand Prix at the Japan Character Awards in both 2022 and 2024. The gap between its adorable visuals and the occasionally harsh worldview has gained support from a wide range of audiences, with the number of followers surpassing 4.5 million.
The new anime series has been airing since July 2025 within "Mezamashi TV" on the Fuji TV network. Additionally, the first theatrical film "Chiikawa The Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island" has been confirmed for release in summer 2026, showing increasing excitement.
