It has been announced that the monthly viewership for Season 2 of the anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" on ABEMA in January 2026 has reached the highest record in the series' history.
"Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" is an anime adaptation of the manga of the same name, which is currently serialized in Shogakukan's "Weekly Shonen Sunday" and has surpassed 35 million copies in worldwide circulation. Set in a world "after" the Demon King has been defeated by heroes, the story follows Frieren, a mage who has lived for over a thousand years, as she embarks on a "journey to understand people" triggered by the death of Himmel, the hero with whom she once defeated the Demon King. The broadcast of Season 2, the TV anime sequel, began in January 2026.
During the period from January 1 to 31, 2026, the first month of Season 2's broadcast, the viewership for both Season 1 and Season 2 of "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" on ABEMA surpassed the results from the first month of Season 1's broadcast (the one-month period starting September 29, 2023), recording the highest numbers in the series' history.
On January 16, when Season 2 Episode 1 (Episode 29 overall) was broadcast, related keywords dominated the top of X's trending section, and a campaign was also launched where typing the work's title would display an original character emoji. As of February 3, 2026, related keywords have trended for three consecutive weeks with each broadcast, maintaining high attention even in Season 2.
Furthermore, during Season 2's broadcast period, all episodes from Season 1 through the latest Season 2 episode are being streamed for free.
