The original manga began serialization in 1980 in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (published by Shueisha) under the title "3-nen Kimengumi," and was retitled "High School! Kimengumi" as the characters advanced to the next stage of their education—a novel concept at the time that became a huge hit.
