New "Toaru" Series "Toaru Anbu no Item" TV Anime Broadcast Confirmed for 2026! Ami Koshimizu, Voice of Shizuri, Says "Take That, Mikoto Misaka!"

The "Toaru" series, centered around the hugely popular novel "A Certain Magical Index" which has surpassed 31 million copies in cumulative sales. The broadcast period for "Toaru Anbu no Item," a spin-off work whose TV anime adaptation had been announced, has been confirmed for 2026.

This information was announced at the event "Toaru Majutsu to Kagaku no Gensou Ongeki (Film Concert) Index no Bu (Matinee Performance)" held on Sunday, February 22nd. Additionally, the teaser visual and production staff information have also been released.

Animation production will be handled by J.C.STAFF, which has consistently worked on the "Toaru" series. Tatsuyuki Nagai, who also directed "A Certain Scientific Railgun," will serve as director, and Shigeki Kimoto will be in charge of character design.

The released teaser visual depicts the four members of Academy City's dark side organization "Item"—Shizuri Mugino, Frenda Seivelun, Rikō Takitsubo, and Saiai Kinuhata—walking through a city where the contrast of sunlight and shadows is impressive. A lone silhouette can be seen standing on the pedestrian bridge behind them, creating a finished product that heightens expectations for the untold story of these girls who operate in the dark side.

Additionally, a comment from Ami Koshimizu, who voices Shizuri Mugino, was included in the footage released at the same event. Koshimizu stated, "I never imagined the day would come when Mugino would become the main character, and while I feel some pressure, this will be a work where people can enjoy the abusive language and beams that Mugino unleashes," and showed her strong determination by saying, "Take that, Mikoto Misaka! That's the feeling I'll bring to the recording sessions!" directed at Rina Satou and others who play the protagonist Mikoto Misaka in "Toaru Kagaku no Railgun."

Furthermore, it has been decided that a special stage for this work will be held at the NBC Universal Entertainment booth at "AnimeJapan 2026," which will take place on Saturday, March 28th through Sunday, March 29th.
