The hit series "Fungus and Iron", currently serialized in Kodansha’s "Bessatsu Shonen Magazine," is officially getting a TV anime adaptation.

The work has become a hot topic for its profound world-building, blending human drama with a dystopian sci-fi setting where "fungi" control the human brain. It has earned high praise for its themes questioning the nature of freedom and what it means to be human.

The original creator, Ayaka Katayama, debuted in 2007 after winning an honorable mention at the 78th Shonen Magazine Newcomer Manga Awards for the one-shot "Onioi no Kawa." The following year, she received further acclaim, winning the Grand Prix at Shueisha's 1st "Gold Tiara Awards" for "Star man." This long-awaited anime adaptation brings to life a new tale of "despair" and "resistance"—a story that even Hajime Isayama, the creator of "Attack on Titan," fell in love with.

The story is set in a controlled society where humanity is dominated by "fungi." Within this world, the irregular protagonist, Dante, decides to overturn the logic of this reality following a chance encounter with a young girl. This unpredictable story is finally coming to the screen as a TV anime.

To commemorate the announcement, a teaser visual translating the series' atmosphere into animation has been unveiled for the first time. The visual faithfully recreates the original world-building, fully capturing the eerie allure of the "Fungal Sea of Trees."

Additionally, a special celebratory illustration and message have arrived from the original creator, Ayaka Katayama.
