"Chiikawa" is a popular manga posted on X (formerly Twitter) that illustrator Nagano began serializing in 2020. It won the grand prix at the "Japan Character Award 2022" and the "Japan Character Award 2024" announced in July 2024. The gap between the small and cute characters and the harsh world setting has gained widespread popularity from adults to children, with followers surpassing 4.6 million to date.
The new series of the anime "Chiikawa" is currently airing from July 2025 within Fuji TV's "Mezamashi TV." Additionally, as the first theatrical release of "Chiikawa," "Chiikawa The Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island" is scheduled to be released on July 24, 2026. A feature-length story called the "Siren Arc," written by Nagano for the film, will be adapted into animation.
