It won the "Japan Character Awards 2022" and further achieved the Grand Prix at both the "Japan Character Awards 2024" and "Japan Character Awards 2025" for two consecutive years. The gap between the small and cute characters and the harsh worldview has garnered widespread popularity from adults to children alike, with followers now exceeding 4.61 million.
The anime "Chiikawa" is currently broadcast on Fuji TV's "Mezamashi TV" every Tuesday and Thursday around 7:36 AM. Additionally, the first theatrical film of "Chiikawa," titled "Chiikawa The Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island," is scheduled for release on July 24, 2026.
