The official X account for the "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" anime has released an ED card-style illustration for Season 2 Episode 37 "Himmel's Autobiography," sparking widespread discussion.
Episode 37 depicted the story of Frieren (CV: Atsumi Tanezaki) and her party accepting a request to find "Himmel's Autobiography" sleeping in an island monastery. Frieren recalls that the hero Himmel (CV: Nobuhiko Okamoto), who once traveled with her and the others, had lost an unfinished notebook during their journey and was searching for it. Apparently, this became a legend and remained at the monastery. Upon actually exploring the location and discovering the notebook, what was written there was "trivial everyday moments of their journey" chronicled from Himmel's perspective.
In the ED card-style illustration by Runa Harano released this time, Himmel is depicted writing something in the notebook with a quill pen in hand, set against pale and beautiful colors based on blue tones. Scattered in the background are numerous travel memories with the hero's party, including Frieren being eaten by a mimic, Heiter (CV: Hiroki Touchi) holding a beer mug, and Eisen (CV: Yoji Ueda), creating an emotional piece that expresses the warm memories chronicled in the autobiography.
In response to this illustration that links with the main story, fans have flooded in with comments touching on the warmth of the episode and illustration, such as "The autobiography's trivial everyday content is precisely what's precious," "I was moved by the hero party's adventure from Himmel's perspective," and "It must be packed full of memories." Furthermore, comments moved to tears and praising the work's deep appeal have been submitted, including "The ending connected with the final scene, emotions were infused from Himmel's perspective, and I cried my eyes out while watching in the bath" and "Himmel-related episodes help you intuitively understand how 'great figures' are created."
