On the official X account of Web Anime Style, it was announced that the fanzine Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack - Fan Club, edited by Hideaki Anno, has been reprinted as a commercial publication. It is now available on Amazon and the Anime Style ONLINE SHOP, becoming a major topic of discussion among fans.
The image attached to the post shows the cover illustration featuring Amuro Ray (CV: Toru Furuya), Char Aznable (CV: Shuichi Ikeda), and Lalah Sune (CV: Keiko Han). Furthermore, on the right side of the page, the names of the illustrious participants, starting with Yoshiyuki Tomino, are listed in alphabetical order, with Anno’s name credited at the bottom as the editor-in-chief. A portion of a page featuring photos of Anno and others arranged in a film-strip style has also been previewed.
In addition to Tomino, this work features a long list of big names who lead the anime and manga industry. With Hideaki Anno at the helm, the lineup includes renowned creators such as Mamoru Oshii, Kunihiko Ikuhara, Hiroyuki Kitazume, Yutaka Izubuchi, Masami Yuki, and Haruhiko Mikimoto. It is truly a "legendary" roster that reflects the immense passion of the anime scene at the time.
Originally published in late 1993, this book aims to multi-dimensionally analyze and summarize Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack through interviews and contributed articles. This reprinted edition faithfully reproduces the original pages while applying minor corrections to the design and text. While some illustrations and photos use scans from the original pages, the book perfectly captures the atmosphere of that era.
In response to the reprint of this precious historical material, social media has been flooded with praise for its dense content and Anno’s foreword, with comments such as: "It’s a 32-year-old piece, but the foreword clearly shows how much of a sense of crisis Anno-san felt regarding the anime industry back then," "Hideaki Anno’s foreword alone is a must-read," and "I got a copy a few years ago and read it; it’s way beyond the level of a fanzine (lol)."
