On Sunday, March 29, the Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 Special Stage was held at the RED STAGE during "AnimeJapan 2026."
The stage featured the main cast: Atsumi Tanezaki (voice of Frieren), Kana Ichinose (voice of Fern), and Chiaki Kobayashi (voice of Stark). Additionally, Shinichiro Miki, who voices Revolte, made a surprise appearance. The cast shared memories of Season 2 and discussed the recently announced production of Season 3, the "Golden-Land El Dorado Arc," in an atmosphere as warm and gentle as the series itself.
■ "Magic to Look Back on Season 2": Cast Shares Memorable Episodes
When asked about the announcement of Season 3 (the "Golden-Land El Dorado Arc"), Tanezaki expressed her overwhelming joy with a pun on the arc's antagonist, Macht: "I’m so... Happy-Macht! I’m just too happy for words..."
The event then moved to a segment titled "Magic to Look Back on Season 2," where the cast introduced their most memorable scenes alongside anime clips. Chiaki Kobayashi selected a scene from Episode 32, "Someone’s Hometown," where Fern braids Frieren’s hair differently depending on whether she is in a good or bad mood. "Expressing emotions through a single hairstyle has a charm that's different from explaining it through dialogue," he noted. Kana Ichinose added, "You could really feel how serious she was [about her date with Stark]," touching on the subtle nuances of the character's heart.
Ichinose chose a scene from Episode 29, "Well then, Shall We Go?", where Stark explains his reason for joining the party. "My heart ached seeing him strive to speak calmly despite his pain," she confessed. "When he looked her in the eye and said, 'I'm not going anywhere,' it made me realize how much I love Stark." Kobayashi revealed a rare behind-the-scenes anecdote, noting that he received a specific direction during recording to "say it even more gently."
Tanezaki selected a scene from Episode 37, "Himmel's Autobiography," where Frieren reads Himmel's life story. Remarking on the direction that shifts from Himmel’s perspective to Frieren’s, she said, "That’s just playing dirty [in a moving way], isn't it?" She expressed her deep emotion, adding, "There is so much love in how they expanded the story from the manga to the anime. I am truly grateful to the staff who created this animation."
