The official X account for Frieren: Beyond Journey's End has posted a photo of the Frieren plushie (CV: Atsumi Tanezaki), continuing a popular series where various words are suffixed with "-ren," which has sparked a lot of discussion.
This time, a photo was posted with the text "Uni-ren," showing the plushie in front of a spread of sushi. In the photo, the Frieren plushie has a slightly smug expression with squinted eyes, while several pieces of nigiri sushi, including uni (sea urchin), are placed on the plate in front of it. The table setting also features traditional Japanese touches, such as a golden chopstick rest and paper place mats decorated with plum blossoms.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is a fantasy series that follows the elf mage Frieren, who defeated the Demon King alongside the Hero Himmel and their companions after a long journey. Following the death of the Hero, she sets out on a new journey to "learn about humans." The original work is a manga of the same name currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday. When it was adapted into a TV anime, its unique pacing, beautiful visuals, and heartwarming story received a massive response, garnering support from a wide range of generations.
In response to this post, fans have shared reactions such as, "Shouldn't it be Sushi-ren?", "None of the letters even overlap this time, and they’re eating delicious food on the company’s dime...", "The Frieren official account is always too free, it’s hilarious (lol)," and "Lady Uni-ren, is your wallet okay?" Some users even posted a panel of Fern (CV: Kana Ichinose) saying, "That’s just too unfair," speaking for many fans' feelings.
