It won the "Japan Character Award 2022" and went on to win the Grand Prix for two consecutive years at the "Japan Character Award 2024" and "Japan Character Award 2025." The gap between the small, cute characters and the harsh worldview has gained widespread popularity among both adults and children, with its follower count surpassing 4.64 million to date.
The anime "Chiikawa" is currently airing on the Fuji TV network during "Mezamashi TV" every Tuesday and Thursday around 7:36 AM. Furthermore, "Chiikawa: The Movie - Secret of the Mermaid Island," the first theatrical film for the series, is scheduled for release on July 24, 2026.
