In Episode 6 of the anime Akane-banashi, which aired on May 9, Koguma Arakawa (CV: Chiaki Kobayashi) of the Shiguma school performed Rakugo. Usually, Koguma is seen wearing glasses with his bangs covering one eye, but during the Rakugo scene, he transformed into what looked like a completely different person, capturing the hearts of viewers who loved the "gap" in his appearance.
In Episode 6, "Terakoya," Akane Ōsaki (CV: Anna Nagase) decides to enter the student Rakugo championship, the Karaku Cup, and seeks guidance from Koguma, who is known as the "Terakoya" of the Shiguma school due to his vast knowledge. This leads to a scene where Akane actually watches Koguma perform Rakugo. While he is normally a man of few words with glasses and bangs covering one eye, the Koguma who appeared on the koza (stage) took off his glasses, slicked his hair back, and began to speak clearly and energetically. Akane was shocked by his transformation, saying, "Is that Koguma-niisan!? He’s totally different from before."
Netizens were buzzing over Koguma’s makeover, with comments like "Peak visuals!", "The slicked-back hair is to die for!", "I love the gap," and "He looked so cool on the stage."
