Frieren’s hilarious facial expressions are back in full force for Season 2! In Episode 30 of the anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End," the "extremely displeased face" shown by Frieren (CV: Atsumi Tanezaki)—paired with her completely hollow, deadpan delivery—delighted fans, drawing comments like "I love grumpy-face Frieren" and "This is so addictive."
Currently available for full streaming, the anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" is based on the manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, serialized in "Weekly Shonen Sunday." Set in a world "after" the Demon King has been defeated, the story follows the elf mage Frieren, who has lived for over a thousand years, as she embarks on a "journey to understand people."
The original manga, which has surpassed 35 million copies in circulation, has won numerous awards including the "Manga Taisho 2021," the "25th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize" New Creator Prize, the "69th (2023) Shogakukan Manga Award," and the "48th Kodansha Manga Award" in the Shonen category. Following the first season in September 2023, the second season began airing in January 2026. It has also been announced that the third season, the "Golden Stadt" arc, will broadcast starting in October 2027.
In Episode 30, Frieren's party arrives at a new town during their travels. When Stark (CV: Chiaki Kobayashi) looks around, remarking, "It’s been a while since we’ve been to a big town," Frieren gives him a cold brush-off: "We’re leaving as soon as we finish resupplying." She even bypasses the magic shops she usually loves to linger in, hurrying to buy necessary supplies before declaring, "Alright, let’s hurry." Observing this, Fern (CV: Kana Ichinose) looks suspicious, noting, "You’ve been acting strange for a while now."
However, when a messenger from the local lord, Count Dach (CV: Kosuke Kobayashi), appears before them, Frieren looks resigned, as if saying, "I was too late." It seems she was desperate to avoid being invited to the Count’s banquet.
