"Heisei Gal" style has "insane impact" and "midriffs save the world"! New visual for Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! unveiled

On the official X account of "SHIBUYA TSUTAYA 6F IP Bookstore," an announcement was made for the "TSUTAYA POP UP SHOP Heisei Gal ver.," a merchandise event for the TV anime Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! starting Friday, May 29. The newly drawn visual featuring five "Makeines" (losing heroines) dressed as "Heisei Gals"—a iconic Japanese street fashion from the late 90s and 2000s—has become a hot topic.

In the released visual, starting from the left, we see Koto Tsukinoki (CV: Atsumi Tanezaki) giving a provocative peace sign; Lemon Yakishio (CV: Shion Wakayama) in a leopard-print overshirt and midriff-baring top; Anna Yanami (CV: Hikaru Tono) with a cardigan tied around her waist holding a crepe; Chika Komari (CV: Momoka Terasawa) giving a shy "Gal Peace" sign with oversized "moe" sleeves; and Yumeko Shikiya (CV: Chika Anzai) wearing an open-collared, loosely-styled cardigan. The charming illustration is filled with items iconic to the era, such as decorated flip phones, loose-fitting outfits, and colorful scrunchies.

Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! is a popular youth rom-com anime based on the light novel by Takibi Amamori. It depicts the slightly clumsy yet endearing adolescent lives of "Makeines"—girls who have lost in love, such as a gluttonous girl, an energetic track club member, and a small-animal-like literature club member—and Kazuhiko Nukumizu (CV: Shuichiro Umeda), a male high school student who often feels like a background character. The unique charm of the heroines and the comical plot developments have gained the series a massive following.
