"The Roots of Mamoru Hosoda Exhibition" will be held at CREATIVE MUSEUM TOKYO from June 20 to August 31. Prior to the opening, highlights of the exhibition and a portion of the exhibition's exclusive original merchandise have been pre-released.
Approaching the "roots" even before The Girl Who Leapt Through Time! This exhibition traces the trajectory of creation from student days to representative works. In addition to masterpiece titles such as The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and Wolf Children, the exhibition features works from his days as a director before The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, independent animation works produced on 8mm film during his junior high school years, live-action video works produced during his time at Kanazawa College of Art, and oil paintings. The exhibition uncovers the roots of Director Mamoru Hosoda's creation alongside a wide variety of production materials.
At the venue, taking advantage of the large space with a 5-meter-high ceiling, an exhibition where visitors can experience the worldview of "OZ"—the virtual world on the internet that appears in Summer Wars—will also be featured. Two life-sized figures of "King Kazma" and "Love Machine" will also make an appearance.
Furthermore, more than 300 items of production materials will be on display, including storyboards, layouts, director's corrections, original drawings, art boards, and character design documents. Expectations are high for this exhibition space, which will be the largest scale ever.
