After a decade-long quest, the Hero Himmel and his four-member party—including Frieren, an elf who has lived for over a thousand years—successfully defeat the Demon King, bringing their grand adventure to an end.

Frieren sets off on a solo journey after promising to meet up with her former party members again. When she reunites with Himmel 50 years later, she is confronted with the reality of mortal life. Regretting that she never tried to truly understand humans, whose lifespans are so much shorter than her own, Frieren embarks on a new journey to learn more about humanity... This forms the core plot of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.

The original manga, created by Kanehito Yamada (story) and Tsukasa Abe (artwork), began serialization in the combined Issue 22/23 of Weekly Shonen Sunday (released on April 28, 2020). Since then, it has won the Grand Prize at the Manga Taisho 2021 and the 25th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize New Creator Prize. In January 2024, it was also awarded the 69th Shogakukan Manga Award. Currently, 15 volumes of the manga have been published, with cumulative circulation surpassing 35 million copies.

Season 3 of the Frieren: Beyond Journey's End anime, covering "The Golden Land Arc," is scheduled to air in October 2027. It will be broadcast on the Nippon TV network, just like Seasons 1 and 2. The production of Season 3 was announced right after the airing of Episode 38, which served as the finale of Season 2. Season 3 will adapt "The Golden Land Arc"—one of the most popular storylines in the original manga—depicting the fierce battle against Macht of El Dorado, one of the Seven Sages of Destruction.

The exact air dates and times have not been revealed yet, so the official announcement will likely drop closer to the premiere of Season 3.

For reference, Seasons 1 and 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End aired every Friday at 23:00 JST on the NTV network's nationwide 30-station hookup during the "FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT" ("Furaani") programming block. While nothing is confirmed and this is purely speculation, Season 3 might very well retain this Friday 23:00 slot in the Furaani block.

As of March 2026, no information has been released regarding the online streaming of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 3, making its availability unconfirmed. However, since Seasons 1 and 2 were both widely available online, there is a high probability that Season 3 will also be streamable.

Season 2 was streamed online across various platforms, including ABEMA, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, d Anime Store, U-NEXT, and others.

Will there be free streaming?
Since it hasn't been announced whether Season 3 of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End will stream online at all, it's currently unknown if there will be any free streaming options. That said, Season 2 offered free streaming on several platforms, so there's a good chance Season 3 might offer some free viewing options as well.

Which manga volume does the story continue from after Season 2?
Season 1 of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End ran for two consecutive cours with a total of 28 episodes, adapting up to Chapter 60 in Volume 7 of the original manga. Season 2 consisted of 10 episodes, adapting the content from Chapter 61 of Volume 7 to Chapter 80 of Volume 9.

While certain anime episodes featured a lot of anime-original additions to flesh out the story—such as more detailed battle scenes compared to the manga, or the added conversation between Frieren and Himmel following Fern and Stark's date in Episode 32—the plot remained highly faithful to the source material without cutting any chapters.

Therefore, you can pick up the story right where the Season 2 anime left off by reading from Chapter 81 in Volume 9 of the manga.

How many episodes will Season 3 have?
As of March 2026, the total episode count for Season 3 remains unannounced. Season 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End adapted up to Chapter 80 in Volume 9 of the manga. It has been confirmed that Season 3 will kick off by adapting "The Golden Land Arc," starting from Chapter 81 in Volume 9.

Season 2 covered 20 manga chapters across 10 episodes. "The Golden Land Arc" is a major storyline that spans 24 chapters, from Chapter 81 of Volume 9 to Chapter 104 of Volume 11. Since Season 2 adapted roughly two manga chapters per anime episode, if Season 3 runs for a single cour (about three months), adapting all 24 chapters of "The Golden Land Arc" would likely result in around 12 episodes.

Up to which volume will Season 3 adapt?
It has been announced that Season 3 of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End will adapt "The Golden Land Arc." In the original manga, this arc spans from Chapter 81 of Volume 9 to Chapter 104 of Volume 11. If Season 3 focuses solely on "The Golden Land Arc," the adaptation will likely conclude at Chapter 104 of Volume 11, though it's also possible they might adapt a few additional chapters following the arc's conclusion.

Seasons 1 and 2 included some anime-original enhancements, such as extended battle scenes and extra character banter, but featured no standalone filler stories. Thus, Season 3 will likely continue to stay highly faithful to the manga.

Starting from Chapter 126 in Volume 13, the manga enters the "Empire Arc," which is still ongoing as of March 2026. If Season 3 ends up running for two cours or a split-cour format to adapt material beyond "The Golden Land Arc," it might cover up to Chapter 125 in Volume 13 right before the "Empire Arc" begins.

The voice cast for Season 3 of the Frieren: Beyond Journey's End "The Golden Land Arc" has not been officially announced yet. In recent years, it's highly uncommon for the main voice cast to change in sequels, and Frieren kept its core cast intact between Seasons 1 and 2. Therefore, the voice actors from the first two seasons will almost certainly reprise their roles for Season 3.

In the manga's "The Golden Land Arc," new characters such as Macht of El Dorado and the Great Demon Solitär make their appearances. As of March 2026, the voice actors for Macht and Solitär have not been revealed. Since Season 3 is scheduled to premiere in October 2027, we can expect the new cast announcements as the broadcast date approaches.

Regrettably, Atsuko Tanaka, the voice actress for Flamme, passed away after Season 1 aired. While Flamme did not appear in Season 2, if she makes an appearance in Season 3, it is expected that a new voice actress will take over the role. In the original manga, Flamme appears in a flashback scene in the storyline immediately following "The Golden Land Arc."
