The anime "Akane-banashi" is based on the popular manga currently serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), created by Yuki Suenaga (story) and Takamasa Moue (art). The protagonist of the story is Akane, who has been fascinated by rakugo since childhood from watching her father, Tōru Ōsaki (CV: Jun Fukuyama), a rakugo storyteller known by his stage name "Shinta Arakawa." After witnessing a shocking incident during her father's critical performance for his promotion to shin'uchi, Akane sets out to reach shin'uchi, the highest rank in the rakugo world.

[Synopsis]
Following her victory at the Karaku Cup, Akane suddenly becomes the center of attention at her high school. However, Akane's feelings are complicated, as she feels she did not quite reach the level of impressing Isshō. As her high school graduation approaches, her friends are inspired by her success and begin pursuing their own dreams. Meanwhile, Shiguma ponders what kind of stage name to give Akane, who will officially join the school after graduation. Akane also finds herself reflecting on the origin of her name and thinking of her father, Shinta.
