A new illustration was released on Gamers' official X account alongside information about an upcoming event for the anime "Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!", generating massive buzz on social media. In particular, fans are zeroing in on the cherries held by Kaju Nukumizu (CV: Minami Tanaka), the protagonist's younger sister who completely dotes on her older brother. The excitement escalated even further when the original author, Takibi Amamori, chimed in, saying, "I choose to believe there is no deep meaning behind Kaju holding those cherries."
The announced event, "TV Anime 'Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!' 2nd Anniversary Store in Gamers," will run from July 11 to July 26. The event will take place across four locations: the AKIHABARA Gamers Main Store, Namba Store, Nagoya Store, and Sendai Store, featuring new merchandise sales and a lottery during the period.
The event illustration features characters dressed up and surrounding Kazuhiko Nukumizu (CV: Shūichirō Umeda), who stands in the center holding a cake with a "2" candle. On the left side are Chika Komari (CV: Momoka Terasawa) and Anna Yanami (CV: Hikaru Tōno) holding canes, while Lemon Yakishio (CV: Shion Wakayama) and Kaju are positioned on the right holding fruit. Kaju, in particular, is cradling one half of a large, split cherry carefully with both hands, wearing a meaningful expression that hints at her extraordinary feelings for her beloved brother.
The anime "Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!" is a youth romantic comedy based on the light novel series of the same name by Amamori. The story follows the chaotic daily life of Kazuhiko, a cynical and lonely high school student, as he forms bizarre friendships with "losing heroines"—girls who have suffered heartbreaks in love—such as a gluttonous childhood-friend-type heroine and a track team ace. The narrative, woven together by a cast of quirky and slightly pitiful characters, including his younger sister Kaju who absolutely adores him, has garnered immense support from fans.
In response to the cherries Kaju is holding, fans who are well-aware of her profound, everyday affection for her brother flooded social media with deep speculations and astonished reactions based on the characters' personalities and dynamics, leaving comments like: "Does this mean 'I'll be taking Big Brother's cherry!'?" and "I looked up what a single cherry from a pair means, and it apparently stands for 'unrequited love.' Could I be overthinking this? It feels incredibly heavy in more ways than one..."
