On June 21, during the "Watanagashi Day" special program, a new PV for Higurashi: When They Cry was released, announcing that a brand-new TV anime series has been greenlit for production.

The Higurashi: When They Cry anime is based on the sound novel game by the doujin circle 07th Expansion. The Higurashi: When They Cry anime series first began broadcasting in 2006, and the latest installment in the franchise, Higurashi: When They Cry – SOTSU, aired in 2021.

The PV also revealed the teaser visual and the main voice cast. It was confirmed that Soichiro Hoshi as Keiichi Maebara, Mai Nakahara as Rena Ryugu, Satsuki Yukino as Mion Sonozaki and Shion Sonozaki, Mika Kanai as Satoko Hojo, and Yukari Tamura as Rika Furude will all reprise their respective roles.

Studio Deen, which worked on the original Higurashi: When They Cry 20 years ago, will handle the animation production. Furthermore, the newly released main visual depicts a smiling Rena Ryugu alongside the catchphrase, "Welcome home, everyone."

In addition, a commemorative logo celebrating the 20th anniversary of the TV anime was unveiled. Designed around the motif of a tear-off calendar to evoke the weight of 20 years, it features an impactful design adorned with Rena's signature cleaver. In the newly released PV for the new TV anime series, fans should also keep an ear out for Rena's newly recorded lines.
