On the official X account of 'Star Blazers 3199,' a collaboration visual newly drawn by Kia Asamiya has been released, featuring a miraculous crossover of two major sci-fi anime that have long been considered rivals. Along with the impact of this historic collaboration where the Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue and the Space Battleship Yamato cross paths, it has created a huge buzz among fans. Furthermore, it was revealed that even in the main footage of 'Chapter 6: Azure Labyrinth,' which is currently in theaters, a scene is actually depicted where the Space Battleship Yamato flies over the statue.
The published visual depicts the massive Space Battleship Yamato flying through the sky behind the life-size Unicorn Gundam statue. The statue's intricate detail combined with the Yamato's sky-covering scale creates an extremely striking composition.
"Star Blazers 3199" is the latest entry in the remake series, reconstructed with a new interpretation based on the 1980 theatrical film "Be Forever Yamato" and other earlier works. Released theatrically in seven chapters, the series is currently up to "Chapter 6: Azure Labyrinth." It depicts the grueling battles and grand human drama of the Yamato crew as they rise again against the invasion of the unknown enemy Dezarium and the threat of altered history.
The post drew reactions such as "They pulled off a forbidden move through the Fukui connection lol," "So the official side really went and did it," "An unexpected crossover—never thought this day would come," and "An official Yamato x Gundam illustration is seriously exciting." "Yamato" and "Gundam," the two pillars of Japanese SF anime history, have long occupied something like a rival relationship, and were considered two worlds that would never cross. However, Harutoshi Fukui, who serves as chief director on this project among other roles, also wrote the original story for "Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn," and fans have drawn attention to his involvement, making this a historic collaboration that feels like a once-forbidden move now come to pass.
