Tsugumi Project, a survival sci-fi action manga by ippatu that became a hit in France before being reverse-imported to Japan, has been confirmed for a TV anime adaptation. Alongside this announcement, a teaser site has opened, unveiling a teaser visual and teaser trailer that capture the work's dark world and depict a devastated "Japan." In addition, comments from the original creator expressing surprise and anticipation about the anime adaptation, along with a newly drawn commemorative illustration, have also been released.
This work was first serialized by the French publisher Ki-oon, where it became a huge hit, before being reverse-imported to Japan and serialized in Weekly Young Magazine (Kodansha). Set in the distant future in a "Japan" that has become a den for creatures that have undergone bizarre evolution, the story portrays the harsh survival struggle of Leon, who carries out a top-secret mission, and Tsugumi, a mysterious girl.

Tsugumi Project is getting an anime?! I honestly can't believe it — what a shock. This is all thanks to everyone who's been reading it. I absolutely love watching creative works that other people make or draw based on my own work, and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm currently serializing another manga called Shojohime, so since we're at it, it'd be great if we could do some kind of collaboration — like Tsugumi and Shojohime facing off in a caveman-versus-ape superpower battle or something. I can't stop writing this comment. I want to see Tsugumi moving around on screen soon. I wonder what'll happen with old man Leon. I'm curious about the voices too. Tsugumi doesn't have many lines, so it'd be fine even with some ad-libbing — I want her to talk a lot more. Though maybe that would be a hassle for the director and staff. Dudu, who probably has the most lines, and Tama-chan, probably in second place, seem like they'll have rewarding work ahead of them. Since Tsugumi Project is set amid ruined building complexes, the background staff must have a tough time of it — I remember it used to take hours to draw just one building, and there'd be dozens of them, so I thought I might die every time (a distant look in my eyes). I don't know the details, but I wonder when it'll come out? Soon? No, I guess it can't be made that fast. I can't wait to watch it. Every week when it airs, I'll buy tons of snacks and watch it properly seated — what they call waiting stark naked in anticipation. So many people are involved in making anime, and I'm deeply grateful to every single one of them. I guess I ended up thanking everyone a bit prematurely.
