Shibuya Scramble Square will host a collaboration event with the popular manga Space Brothers, which is set to conclude its 18-year serialization on July 22. The event, "Shibuya Scramble Square x Space Brothers: Shibuya Cosmic School — Encounter Questions, Encounter Excitement —," will run from August 3 to August 23.
Space Brothers is a human drama by Chuya Koyama that follows brothers Mutta Nanba and Hibito Nanba, who promised each other in childhood that they would become astronauts, as each pursues his own path toward reaching space.
During the event period, three themed "classrooms" — Creation, Story, and World — will appear throughout the facility. The Creation Classroom will be set up at the 12th-floor event space Scene12, the Story Classroom at SCRAMBLE books& inside TULLY'S COFFEE commu square on the 9th floor, and the World Classroom at SKY GALLERY inside the observation facility SHIBUYA SKY on the 46th floor. Each will feature exhibits and the sale of limited-edition merchandise.
At the 12th-floor Creation Classroom, the lunar base "SHIBUYA MOON BASE" will appear from August 3 to August 16. In addition to photo spots and panel displays of memorable quotes, a large official store will also be set up. On August 16, a talk event celebrating the release of the final volume will be held, featuring author Chuya Koyama and his editors Komuro and Yuhiko, along with a discussion event with Masayuki Takahata, known as the "Stationery King." A talk event with the editors is also scheduled for August 15.
Numerous workshops will also be held. On August 11, cloud researcher Kentaro Araki will use the "Hobonichi Earth Ball" to explain what clouds look like from space, and physicist Yuichi Takamizu will hold a lecture on astrophysics. On August 10 and 12, Via Aroma will hold a hands-on workshop where participants can blend space-themed fragrances.
The 9th-floor Story Classroom will feature a special exhibit packed with the particular tastes of Koyama, an avid stationery enthusiast. It includes "Koyama Stationery Shop," introducing his favorite pens and notebooks, and "Koyama Books," selling the books that inspired him, along with a desk recreating the atmosphere of his actual writing desk.
