It originated from the manga The Ghost in the Shell, published by Shirow Masamune in 1989, and has since been adapted across numerous media, including animation and a Hollywood live-action film. The anime The Ghost in the Shell, which began airing in July 2026, is the latest installment in the series, produced by Science SARU, a studio that continues to earn high acclaim both in Japan and abroad.
Episode 2 "SUPER SPARTAN ii + JUNK JUNGLE i" [Synopsis]
Kusanagi and her unit begin operating as Public Security Section 9 after being recruited by Aramaki. One day, a virus infiltrates the cyberbrain of the Foreign Minister's interpreter. Sensing that the exiled Colonel Malles may be attempting to sabotage the secret talks, Aramaki instructs Kusanagi and the others to trace the signal and track down the perpetrator.
