The anime Tenkaichi: The Greatest Warrior Under the Rising Sun has been confirmed to air from April 2027. Alongside the news, a teaser visual and a teaser trailer, the main cast and staff, and congratulatory comments from the original creators were released.

The series is based on the manga by Yōsuke Nakamaru (original story) and Kyōtarō Azuma (art), currently serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Young Magazine. It portrays the cross-discipline martial arts epic that everyone has dreamed of. In the year 1600, Oda Nobunaga, having unified the country, senses that his own death is near and declares, "I will hand this country to whoever brings me the strongest warrior." From there, the feudal lords who covet the seat of the next ruler of the realm each put forward their strongest warrior and clash.

The teaser visual that has been unveiled depicts Miyamoto Musashi and Honda Tadakatsu clashing in the first bout, with Oda Nobunaga, the ruler of the realm who convened Tenkaichi, standing behind them. The teaser trailer, meanwhile, shows Nobunaga's declaration opening the tournament along with numerous warriors in dynamic motion.

The main cast has also been announced: Miyamoto Musashi is voiced by Gen Sato, Honda Tadakatsu by Kenichirō Matsuda, and Oda Nobunaga by Kenyū Horiuchi. Comments from the cast were released at the same time.

Sato, who plays Miyamoto Musashi, a young swordsman with a talent still unfinished, spoke of the work's appeal: "Being able to feel the 'excitement that cannot be put into words' deep within the soul is extremely compelling." He also revealed that, in preparing for the role, he visited Musashi's grave and a museum and lost about 15 kilograms before heading into the recording sessions.

Matsuda, who plays Honda Tadakatsu, the strongest general of the Tokugawa army, commented, "The appeal is a world full of romance, one that depicts serious duels between warriors that could never have happened in history but that everyone has imagined at least once." Looking back on his intense performance, he added, "I performed with the feeling that 'this is a battlefield, and I do not mind if I wreck my throat today.'"

Horiuchi, who plays the mad demon king Oda Nobunaga, described the energy on set: "For the generals who failed to seize the realm, this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take it. Even during recording, I was constantly moved by the passionate performances of the actors." On how he built the role, he explained, "I performed with an awareness of an overwhelming presence, and of an eeriness that could in a sense be called madness."

Comments celebrating the anime adaptation also arrived from the original creators. Nakamaru, who writes the original story, expressed his anticipation: "Let us wait excitedly for the finished work, looking forward to the flashy action and the rampaging of the incredibly cool characters that Azuma drew in the manga." Azuma, who draws the manga, shared his delight: "I cannot wait to see how the characters I created together with Nakamaru will be expressed in the anime."

Animation production is handled by Fugaku, with Masashi Abe as director, Kazuharu Sato in charge of series composition, Ryoji Nakamori on character design, and Hayato Matsuo composing the music.
