Medalist the Movie Set for February 2027 Release! Teaser Trailer Drops to Fan Reactions: "Literal goosebumps" and "I'm gonna cry if I watch this in a theater"

It has been announced that Medalist the Movie will be released in theaters nationwide on February 19, 2027. Along with the announcement, a teaser visual and a teaser trailer have been unveiled.

Medalist is based on the popular figure skating manga by Tsurumaikada. Serialized in Afternoon magazine since 2020, the series has won numerous awards, including 1st place in the Comics Category at the Next Manga Awards 2022, the Shogakukan Manga Award, and the Kodansha Manga Award. Following a TV anime adaptation broadcast spanning two seasons on the TV Asahi network starting in 2025, this marks the franchise's first feature film.

The movie will cover the highly anticipated All Japan Novice Championship. Standing in the way of skater Inori Yuitsuka (CV: Natsumi Haruse) and her coach Tsukasa Akeuraji (CV: Takeo Otsuka)—who are coming off a victory at the Chubu Block Competition—are Hikaru Kamisaki (CV: Kana Ichinose), the previous year's gold medalist known as a "genius girl," and Jun Yotaka (CV: Yuma Uchida), an Olympic gold medalist and Hikaru's exclusive coach. This direct clash between rivals vying for the top of the ice will be depicted on a breathtaking scale.

The newly released teaser trailer captures the moment of resolve for Inori and Tsukasa as they take on the All Japan Novice Championship. Amidst the unique tension of the venue and the immense pressure from formidable rivals, Tsukasa tells her, "You have the power to change destiny," to which Inori strongly vows, "I will definitely make this a success." The footage also leaves a strong impression of their tight bond, showing Inori gripping the drawstrings of Tsukasa's hoodie to ease her nerves and the two sharing a fist bump. The accompanying teaser visual depicts Inori clad in her red skating outfit, with Tsukasa watching over her with a powerful gaze from across the rink boards.

In response, fans have flooded social media with comments like, "Seeing this on the big screen is just the best. Additionally, starting September 4, participating theaters will begin selling MubiTike (advance ticket) cards featuring newly drawn illustrations of Inori and Tsukasa. Furthermore, the Kadokawa Store will be accepting pre-orders until September 29 for advance tickets bundled with a framed reproduction of a special illustration colored by the original creator, Tsurumaikada.
